What is Rational Agent?

Artificial intelligence is defined as the study of rational agents. A rational agent could be anything that makes decisions, as a person, firm, machine, or software, and so on.

Properties of Rational Agent:

• Autonomous control
• Perceiving their environment
• Persisting over a prolonged period
• Adapting to change
• And capable of taking on another’s goal

An agent’s behaviour is described by the agent function that maps any given percept sequence to an action, which can be implemented by an agent program. The agent function is an abstract mathematical description; the agent program is a concrete implementation, running on the agent architecture.

The task environment of an agent is described by four parts:-
